History

The Petit Convent, a former stable where iron tools are still secured to the roofs and used to hang and exhibit pieces that would be sold as a whole, has been part of, and witness to, the town of Begur's transformation over several centuries. Families who helped to sustain the town's economy over the years by selling meat and milk products in the area would have lived in the upper floors.

Begur’s origins are closely linked to Cuba. Many emigrants from Begur returned to this coastal town at the end of the 19th century after leaving for the Caribbean island, bringing the wealth they earned in rum and sugar with them. Their demeanour, cheer and happiness influenced the architecture of the new houses in such a way that nowadays taking a walk around here is like experiencing two time periods simultaneously, before and after.
